Maker Month - Ben

Where did you go to school?

I graduated from UC Irvine with a sociology degree, something completely unrelated to woodworking.

Why would you recommend a career in skilled trades?

Personally, I like seeing the growth of my skills improving every year. And every day, there's something new to solve. I like to keep my mind creative by tackling different projects.

What advice do you have for those who may be considering pursuing skilled trades?

My advice would be to not quit easily. It's going to be difficult and sometimes you'll get stuck, but remember why you started and there's always a better solution to each problem. I’d also say take a risk and try something new – it’s better to take a risk when you’re younger.

What are your future aspirations?

My dream would be to build a maker community from scratch: a community of like-minded people who can help and support each other and ultimately create a self-sustaining community that can offer services from agriculture to furnishing a finished house.

Why are you #MakerProud?

I'm #MakerProud because I built everything I have right now with my own hands. I also taught myself everything from scratch. I am proud to see how far I've come ever since I had the idea of starting my own business and I am most proud of knowing that I'm doing something  that I am passionate about and that I am able to make a living out of it.
