Preparing for Your Interview

Preparing for your interview?

You’ve got this!

At Stanley Black & Decker, we’re For Those Who Make The World™. We serve and celebrate makers – those who do their best every day to make the world a better place.

During your upcoming interview, we may ask you to tell us about a time YOU made someone’s day.

We believe that gratitude and kindness are universal concepts that foster an inclusive culture. Brightening someone’s day can make a world of difference.

Rest assured, there are no right or wrong answers. We just want to get to know you a little better and find that “day maker” makes a great conversation starter.

How else can you prepare for the interview?

Take a deep breath. Approach the interview as a two-way street. It’s just as much your chance to learn about an opportunity and our workplace, so that you can figure if it’s a good fit for you.

Be your authentic self. We’re a company that appreciates a highly diverse workforce. During the interview, we hope you’ll feel free to express your unique perspectives and viewpoints. We’re interested in meeting you.

Come ready with questions. Regardless of the position you’re interviewing for, it’s very likely that someone during the interview process will ask, “So, do you have any questions for me?” Have a few questions ready that are specific to the person you’re speaking with (about the position, about the corporate strategy, team dynamic, etc.).

Do a little digging. Know whom you’re speaking with prior to the interview. Don’t be afraid to ask for the spelling of their name so that you may find their LinkedIn profile. Having this “introduction” puts you a step ahead.

Test your tech. Many of our interviews are happening virtually so be sure to test your computer and camera in advance. If you have any trouble, our recruiting team will gladly help you through the process.

We can’t wait to meet you!
