Meet Trevor, whose work on the DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ System is reshaping the concrete industry.
Portrait of Trevor D.

Trevor understands the needs of the jobsite. “I have a background in construction and have been working with tools as far back as I can remember,” he explains.

During his time in the trades, Trevor purchased two DEWALT cordless drills. “I used these tools to make a living and instantly became a DEWALT fan,” he shares. “I actually still have them today.”

In 2002, Trevor was approached to join Stanley Black & Decker as part of a new retail specialist program, where he leveraged his construction background and passion for DEWALT to kickstart an impactful career. At the heart of his trajectory here, teamwork and curiosity have fueled his success.

There’s always someone who’s willing to lend a hand or encourage you. This camaraderie is what gives me the greatest sense of belonging.

A Career Defined by Impact

During his twenty-three years here, Trevor has held multiple roles throughout the organization, including Service Operations Manager, Field Marketing Coordinator and Divisional Sales Manager. Through each role, he gained new experiences and additional insights into the Company. He learned more about managing day-to-day operations and workflows, gained experience with the product development process and helped develop the next generation of leaders.

However, Trevor missed interacting with our end-users in the field. “As much as I enjoyed my previous roles, I wanted to be part of our product development team,” he shares. “In 2021, I accepted the opportunity to join the Concrete team.”

In his current role as a Senior Product Manager, Trevor works with a global, cross-functional team to develop new tools and solutions. “I communicate daily with our global teams, and each plays a vital role in the product development process,” he says. “I spend most of my time working with the best engineers in the world, but I also collaborate with Brand and Marketing, Packaging and many more.”

Through this teamwork, they design innovations that make a far-reaching, worldwide impact. “We want to create the best possible tools for our users and get them home safely at the end of the day,” he states. “And here, we’re trusted to create products that not only represent the best interests of our end-users but also drive our business forward.”

The safety of our tradespeople is of the utmost importance, and innovations like DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ will improve the user’s experience by reducing noise pollution and exhaust fumes, and by improving ergonomics to reduce strain.

Taking A User-Driven Approach to Product Development

One major project Trevor worked on is the DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ System, which began with the idea of replacing gas-powered equipment with cordless, electric alternatives. Trevor and his team started the design process by interviewing the pros, learning more about the various pain points they face in their work.

“I learned that replacing gas-powered tools comes with high expectations,” he shares. “Our users make a living with our tools and need them to be reliable.”

As they developed and refined the design through multiple iterations, Trevor brought prototypes to jobsites, where he observed the tools in action and collected feedback from users. “My biggest lesson from this project is that our end-users are the most important part of the development process,” he shares. “Their feedback and willingness to work with us are why DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ is successful.”

The Innovating Never Stops

DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ received immediate acclaim. After the initial launch, Trevor and his team explored opportunities to expand the system and continue to reduce inefficiencies on concrete jobsites. They focused on creating new heads and shafts for the DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ Vibrator and Backpack Vibrator that limit the amount of rework slabs required and facilitate one-stage concrete pours for large construction projects.

As Trevor explained, slabs are often damaged in the removal of concrete forms, meaning they require repair work. The solution was to create rubber-tipped heads, which protect slabs from issues like marring and heat marks while also limiting voids that can occur when stripping the forms.

Construction is evolving every day, and it's very humbling to know that something I helped create will have such a positive impact.

Trevor also identified changes in concrete placement processes. The large-scale walls and columns found in construction projects such as water treatment plants, bridges and data centers are now frequently poured in a single stage instead of multiple. This requires larger heads and shafts, and Trevor partnered with key users to determine the sizes and dimensions required for this approach.

As DEWALT POWERSHIFT™ continues to garner accolades, including recently being recognized as one of Contractors’ Top 50 New Products of 2025 by Equipment Today, Trevor described how this expanded selection of heads and shafts will impact the concrete industry.

“Our initial product lineup could complete most concrete placement applications. With these new additions, we’re closing the gaps on the remaining applications,” he explains. “Innovations like this will improve productivity, the user experience and safety. That’s how we can transform jobsites.”
