To be a good leader, you need to have a varied background and a set of experiences that let you really understand and connect with the people you’re leading. The rotation program helped me develop my skillset and gave me the flexibility to be able to adapt to different situations and challenges quickly.

Tell us about your career journey. What made you want to come to Stanley Black & Decker?

One of the big reasons was the people. During my interviewing process, every person that I interacted with was genuine, open and passionate about the work they were doing. That really drew me in.

Working in ops was a great opportunity for me. There is just a lot of new, important work being done in this function at this time. It’s been a great experience for me to learn about not only the supply chain and logistics, but manufacturing in all aspects.

What’s been your greatest accomplishment at the company so far?

What stands out for me is creating training materials and having them implemented at the sites. Seeing the impact they had on the operators — their efficiency and processes — felt like a major accomplishment.

You went on site visits as part of the process of developing these new training materials. Why was that experience important for you?

Not only was it the first time I got to visit the sites — and meet people in person and understand how the sites functioned — but I also got to spend time with the people making our products. It showed me ways I could make their jobs easier. By seeing how they work in person, I was able to help make the training processes quicker, easier to understand and reduce errors.

Can you share your approach to leadership? And what you’ve learned in the Stanley Black & Decker Leadership Program?

To be a good leader, you need to have a varied background and a set of experiences that let you really understand and connect with the people you’re leading. The rotation program helped me develop my skillset and gave me the flexibility to be able to adapt to different situations and challenges quickly.

With the SLP, you’re being put on new assignments. Going from manufacturing to logistics or technology, you have to adapt to those types of roles. It’s challenging but also immensely rewarding.
