Communications Manager

Allie started her career working in the Public Relations field before switching to a Corporate Communications role at a global consumer products brand. “I fell in love with communications, especially the internal side of things,” she shares.

In 2021, Allie’s mentor and colleague encouraged her to apply for a role at Stanley Black & Decker. She’s now a Communications Manager, supporting internal communications efforts and initiatives for the Industrial business unit.

Her unit was first established in 2020, meaning she’s been at the forefront of the creation of the team’s strategies. “I’ve had the privilege of helping set and shape our Industrial communications strategies from the ground up,” she shares.

Working in Communications at Stanley Black & Decker

In her role as a Communications Manager, Allie’s day can include everything from managing and running internal Town Halls to partnering with teams across the business on internal content series.

“One of my favorite things about my job is that it challenges me in the best way possible,” she says. “Our Industrial businesses are complex, and our team is constantly pushing ourselves to think creatively.”

A favorite recent internal project was the “Cheers to Our Peers” campaign, which ran on Workplace by Facebook. As part of the campaign, employees were encouraged to tag a colleague, recognizing and celebrating their contributions to the business.

“The campaign was a great success,” she shares. “It had one of the best engagement rates we’ve had to date.”

Why Internal Communication matters. And its evolution at Stanley Black & Decker.

To Allie, Internal Communications is vital to the success of a business due to its ability to distribute crucial information efficiently.

“Having an established company vision is great, but effectively communicating it is even more critical,” she states. “In our current hybrid landscape, it’s essential that our communications are engaging and moving the needle with employees across the globe.”

As part of a results-driven communications strategy, Allie and her team use data to inform their plans and reinforce their recommendations.

“Measurement is something I’m very passionate about,” she says. “I’m happy to see this evolution as we continue to look to our data to develop effective communications strategies and serve as strategic advisors for our partners across the business.”

Working at a purpose-driven company

Supporting Stanley Black & Decker’s purpose — For Those Who Make The World™ — is another key function of Allie’s job. “Part of my role is to engage our employees, who contribute to this purpose in their day-to-day work,” she states.

This purpose extends to our workplace. “We have an inclusive culture that encourages our teams to develop and thrive,” she says. “My manager is my biggest ‘cheerleader,’ always pushing me to do my best and helping me learn each step of the way.”
