Sam Bird has been part of the DS Virgin Racing Team since the 2014/15 season, when he achieved two exciting wins. In his second Formula E season, he gained more pole positions on the grid than any other driver and took the title in Buenos Aires.
Sam first began racing on the karting scene in 2002, progressing to Formula BMW where he ended the year as runner-up in the rookie standings in 2004, and coming second in the championship in 2005. He continued his career in Formula Renault and Formula 3 with numerous victories, followed by the World Series by Renault in 2011 and GP2 in 2012. During this season, Sam continued his Mercedes F1 testing duties, and then in 2013 was named Reserved Driver for the team. He also competed in GP2, securing five wins and six podium finishes for team Russian Time. During the Tudor United Sports Car Championships in 2014/15, we went on to break the Daytona 24 Hours Lap Record.
In his time with Formula E so far, Sam has competed in every season and accomplished six wins and 11 podiums, and is sure to continue his outstanding career far into the future.
