FOR THOSE WHO MAKE THE WORLD™ EMPOWERED

Atita Verghese is a true pioneer – an innovator and creator – not just in her community, but in her country.

Inspired by her mother and her grandmother – both trailblazers of their times – Atita has achieved more than many girls of her age. Breaking the mold, just like the other strong women in her family, Atita was committed to following her childhood ambitions. Through personal resolve and perseverance, she has overcome challenges to become a skateboarding icon – in fact, the first professional female skateboarder in India.

After finishing high school in 2013, Atita embraced the opportunity to learn the art of skateboarding through a good friend, who introduced her to the skate park for the very first time. Without the money to buy a board of her own, she spent time waiting for others to finish practicing at the park before borrowing equipment and acquiring the skills she would need for future success. Recognizing her extraordinary talent, her friend encouraged her to pursue her dream and made her a skateboard of her own.

Feeling empowered, independent and free, Atita realized that this was her destiny, not only for herself, but as a way to make a difference and shape the future for the next generation of girls in her community.

“Skateboarding rises above class, caste or gender and unites people from different sections of society. In the end, it’s one skateboard – and one love.” - Atita Verghese

Now, Atita is motivating and coaching other girls, providing an environment of encouragement and support – enabling them to break free from tradition and stereotypes, and truly shine in their sport.

STANLEY is proud to support this young athlete, who is breaking down barriers and stereotypes through skateboarding.
