Together We Are More; Celebrating Difference for a More Inclusive World

FOR THOSE WHO MAKE THE WORLD™

The rainbow flag has flown for decades as a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pride – and for June this colorful emblem is flying high at more than 30 Stanley Black & Decker locations around the globe.

It’s a visible symbol of our company’s culture, where we’re creating a welcoming and supportive workplace where every person is respected, empowered and valued – and where individual voices are heard.

“Pride month is an opportunity not only for us to recognize the LGBT+ community, but also to celebrate the broad diversity across our employee base and explore what it means to be an inclusive community that recognizes the value of our differences,” CEO Jim Loree said. “I’ve said this before and I believe it so strongly: diversity and inclusion are essential for achieving our vision, fulfilling our purpose and being a sustainable company where the most talented people can thrive. A culture that doesn’t embrace people who look, think and act differently will simply not get to the best solution or results.”

We’re also working for equality outside our company, by publicly voicing support for the Equality Act in the U.S. Congress, a measure that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate against workers on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. CEO Jim Loree was one of more than 200 CEOs of America’s largest companies who voiced support for this measure through our membership in the Business Roundtable.

Another visible sign of our support for LGBT inclusion during June’s Pride month activities can be seen at one of the largest airports in New England – our new sign at Bradley International Airport. The sign will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors, reinforcing our philosophy that #togetherwearemore

Through collaboration with our employees around the world, we have developed a program of support, education and advocacy initiatives to ensure equal opportunities are guaranteed for everyone throughout our company. This has included guidance and training for employee development, recruitment and selection across all our locations globally.

Our Pride & Allies employee resource group also celebrates and supports the LGBTQI+ culture and champions inclusivity. The more than 1,000 members and allies within this group have also helped to foster and build a positive, engaging, safe and open environment for all.

Our efforts are being recognized externally, and earlier this year, Stanley Black & Decker received a perfect score of 100 on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Stanley Black & Decker joins the ranks of over 560 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.
