Describe your SLP experience in one word.

Enriching

What is your lasting impression of being an SLP?

My SLP experience allowed for a deeper understanding of the organization’s core values: courage & innovation, agility & performance, inclusivity & collaboration, integrity & accountability.

Learning in a diverse environment that is not limited to a specific work function or business segment empowered me to adopt those values and relate them to my individual as well as my team’s Purpose.

What is one interesting fact about Stanley Black & Decker that people might not know?

In the 1960s, Black & Decker designed tools for NASA to use in the Apollo moon program. The tools were used to extract samples from the moon surface. Black & Decker worked closely with NASA to test the tools in anti-gravity simulated conditions before they were taken on moon missions. Based on this work, Black & Decker later introduced innovative products to the market including cordless precision medical instruments, and cordless vacuum cleaners.

What was the highlight of your SLP experience?

The highlight of my SLP experience is the global exposure. It was such an invaluable opportunity to work, and interact with peers from 18+ countries. This exposure expedited my learning about the business, and allowed me to strengthen my professional network within the organization.

What is your advice for future SLPs?

The SLP program provides great networking opportunities as you interact with not only your peers but also the organization’s executive management. This is a golden opportunity to build a strong network as you are starting your career with Stanley Black & Decker. The time is limited, be well prepared, and practice your 30 second elevator pitch.

How does the SLP Purpose, FOR THOSE WHO MAKE THE WORLD EMPOWERED TO SUCCEED THROUGH LEADERSHIP, speak to you?

I don’t have to be in a managerial role before being a leader. I should, like everyone else, be a leader in everything I do while fulfilling my tasks and responsibilities. My purpose, as part of the SLP family, and as a leader, is to inspire others around me to succeed and celebrate their successes.
