Supporting our Future Makers & Innovators

FOR THOSE WHO MAKE THE WORLD™

Nearly 500 young inventors from 20 states gathered at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan to present ground-breaking innovations to real-world problems at the Third Annual National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo (NICEE).

These incredible inventors shared their ideas on clean energy products, healthcare solutions, automation, robotics, and more. These innovators represent the top students out of nearly 100,000 participating in STEMIE programs annually.

The educational event, led by the STEMIE Coalition, was a celebration of inventors between kindergarten and grade 12 from across the United States. NICEE provides students the opportunity to display their critical thinking skills through innovation, and provides young minds with a framework from concept to prototype to pitch.

We’re honored to be a founding sponsor of this event and of the STEMIE Coalition. Investing in STEAM education is crucial to our company, as we work toward our goal of empowering 10 million makers by the year 2030. Invention and innovation are the lifeblood of our company, and we’re proud to see young students engaged in these activities from a young age.

Each year, students compete at state-level invention and entrepreneurship competitions around the country. Winners from these events are then invited to attend NICEE. The event serves as the national “finals” competition.

Students are challenged to come up with real-world problems and use their creativity to brainstorm solutions and ideas to that problem. Failure and improvements are encouraged. Finally, they are tasked with creating an invention prototype and pitching their solutions to a judging panel.

At the NICEE Finals, more than 70 awards were presented to students at varying grades. We’d like to send a huge congratulation to Quinn Holt, a fourth grader from Idaho for winning the Stanley Black & Decker Most Innovative Award. Quinn’s “Wireless Energy Transmitter” invention transfers energy from a tesla coil to power solar panels and emit energy. His impressive pitch can be found here.

We consider every attendee at NICEE to be a winner. Each student proved their ingenuity and perseverance by being there. These skills are the result of STEAM learning, and we’re proud to support this type of education at every level. At Stanley Black & Decker, our goal is to empower all makers, innovators, and creators.
