Fostering Innovation with a MassChallenge Partnership in Boston

FOR THOSE WHO MAKE THE WORLD™ INNOVATIVE

At Stanley Black & Decker, we are always on the lookout for new ideas and new ways of thinking. That’s why we partner with some of the most innovative institutions in the world and why we put a premium on originality and creative thinking for our people.

In this sprit, we are proud to partner with MassChallenge, a world-class catalyst for entrepreneurs that hosts “accelerators” around the world where startup companies have the chance to collaborate, learn, and hone their business models. Hundreds of startups are selected each year to receive free office space, intensive training, world-class mentoring, and more.

These organizations are also challenged at the end of the 4-month accelerator to compete for shares of more than $1M in equity-free prizes. Stanley Black & Decker has contributed $100,000 to support MassChallenge.

Through a global network of accelerators in Boston, Israel, Mexico, Switzerland, and the U.K., MassChallenge is driving incredible growth around the world.

“MassChallenge and Stanley Black & Decker have closely aligned goals to stimulate innovation and cultivate entrepreneurial activity by supporting early-stage entrepreneurs as they develop and execute on game-changing ideas, technologies, and discoveries,” said Kiki Mills Johnston, Managing Director, MassChallenge Boston.

Stanley Black & Decker recently opened our 11th Innovation Center in the South Boston Seaport, adjacent to the MassChallenge HQ.

Our team plans to work closely with MassChallenge and the startups throughout the accelerator period.  Additionally, we outfitted a community workspace in the MADE@ Lab (a 5,000 sq. ft. R&D lab space) and plan to participate in their MADE@ curriculum. This space will not only help startups bring their ideas to life, but will do so with top-of-the-line equipment, including DEWALT and STANLEY tools and Lista storage systems.

“Our Innovation team is focused on uncovering disruptive business models and exploring technologies to transform and secure the world we live in,” says Spencer Maid, Vice President, STANLEY FUTURES.

“Our partnership with MassChallenge is a perfect match, and we’re excited to work with some of the best and brightest startup companies from around the globe.” - Spencer Maid
